Starting the Seeds...
Today was a wonderful day! Perfect temps, bright sun, slight breeze. Just perfect. I decided it was also a perfect day to get some seeds started. So there they are. Tomatoes, lettuces, melons, cabbages, leeks, marigolds, ground cherries (Liam loves those things...or at least he did last year) and a few other things that escape my memory right now. 99% of these are heirloom seeds. A couple weeks ago I went with my sister to the Silverton Seed Exchange and got some wonderful things to try. Orange Zinger Calendula.....I was not quite sure what in that baggy was a seed and what was just part of the flower...I took a stab in the dark and we will see what comes up.
David did some weeding in the front yard for me and I worked a little in the back. I started weeding out the bed that the peas will go in. And this year I am waiting until April and I am going to sprout them before planting. It can't hurt...anything will be better than last year! And the year before....and the year before! I potted a few house plants, cleaned out the greenhouse a little...and just puttered away. Liam was quite a help...mainly blowing huge bubbles in my face...and talking a mile a minute. As I watered the seeds he asked if I was giving them a shower.
Then the sky started to get dark. Spring in Oregon. A few sprinkles. Some fun on the patio with the "rainbrella" and then a clap of thunder. And a torrent that lasted for at least 15 minutes! I appreciate this time of year though. All to soon we will be in the heat of summer, and yes, it can get hot here. Maybe not like Texas...that is agony. Who lives there on purpose!?
Yesterday we picked up a new to us dining room set. After quite a bit of scrubbing and elbow grease I managed to get off all the paint (from my nieces crafting). And this morning Craig set to work repairing one of the slats on the back of a chair...when he was 'done' I was on the phone to a local furniture repair company to see when they could get it in. It now will need a lot of wood filler and varnish...maybe an entire new back! They'll need to dig out the drill bit. Craig is such a handy man and everything he works on turns out fine....almost.
And then what a wonderful ending to the day...as I tucked Liam into bed he started to say the same prayer he has been saying every night since he could talk "Jesus, I love you. Amen" But he didn't say amen....he said "and mommy and daddy and David and (something I couldn't quite make out) (followed by another something I couldn't quite make out) and David and daddy amen." Then after loving on him for being so amazing, as I left his room, he said "night night mommy, sweep tight." Poor little man, his name starts with the one letter he can't pronounce yet.
