Marriage 1828: The act of uniting a man and woman for life; wedlock; the legal union of a man and woman for life. Marriage is a contract both civil and religious, by which the parties engage to live together in mutual affection and fidelity, till death shall separate them. Marriage was instituted by God Himself for the purpose of preventing the promiscuous intercourse of the sexes, for promoting domestic felicity and for securing the maintenance and education of children. Marriage is honorable in all and the bed undefiled. Heb.
Auntie Pam's son, Allen, and our pastors daughter, Cherith, were married on May 23rd in a simple yet beautiful ceremony. There relationship that culminated in this special day was what Mr. Webster was talking about so many many years ago. Allen and Cherith knew each other for a number of years but listened to the counsel of their parents, holding off on courting. They never held hands or kissed before their wedding day. But what an amazing romance blossomed during that time.
As I watched the little video of how they met and leading up to their special day I first had regrets of they way I had handled my life early on. Then I realized I could not change what I had done but I could give to Liam the guidance to not make my mistakes. And I could teach him as he grows older the beauty of a pure life until marriage.
So back to the wedding. I think their first kiss was priceless. Because it was their FIRST kiss and they had not been practicing. The slight awkwardness simply added to the sweetness of the experience. Cherith's dad officiated some of the wedding. That must have been so special for her to have him involved like that.
The reception was held at another church close by. Under a big tent, where they served chili and cornbread. Pie was the wedding cake. They wanted a very country wedding and they did a wonderful job making it happen. But Allen had another surprise up his sleeve.

They arrived in a horse drawn carriage!
Liam got to take a ride with two of his favorite people, Tori and Luke.
He even got to ride up front. I think he had about five turns in all!
And they left in a horse drawn carriage.
One thing that crossed my mind during this special day (I know I have had a lot of thoughts) is what a testimony this was to the young men and women in our church. Something for them to aspire to. What girl doesn't want a fairy tale wedding and riding off into the sunset with her love? What young man doesn't want to woo and romance a young woman? I can't imagine a more perfect and Biblical start to forever than this!
Congratulations Allen and Cherith!
Before I end this post I wanted to share a little of what is happening to America through the dictionary. As you read on top, the beautiful definition from 1828. From my 1980 dictionary: The state of being married; a legal contract, entered into by a man and a woman, to live together as husband and wife; wedlock.
And from a current dictionary: The state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law. The state of being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of a traditional marriage.
Just reading that saddens me. If our young people have only a current definition to go to then where is the specialness. There is no feeling or emotion in what is currently being printed in dictionaries. Nothing to aspire to, nothing to cherish. Just cold and legal and in the last part of the definition, sinful. Nothing mentioned about no parting until death, no mention of God or scripture. No wonder society is crumbling, marriages falling apart. Children being left to their own devices. We are deteriorating. And the dictionary is saying it loud and clear!
I know it will not be easy but I am determined with Liam, to give him a chance at such purity and innocence and joy.
p.s.....these are my own pictures so some are dark. But you get the idea.
Congratulations Allen and Cherith!
