It seems that every single day when I wake up...before Liam is awake and things start to get busy, I think to myself...'self...you really need to sit down and post on the blog.' But Self rarely listens to me. But here I am!!! I listened to Self today! So what all I have missed out on telling you in the last couple weeks? Well, we had Father's Day. I took Liam to the store to pick out a Father's Day card for his dad. Of course, since we did wait until the day before the pickings were pretty slim. But Liam was undaunted and chose his card!
Yep....he just could not get past the turtle that spread its arms out. I pointed out to him a couple times that his dad couldn't read Spanish. Also, this card was the only one there and had no envelope. I really should have asked for a discount! But you must admit...it was pretty cute!
June is cherry month and we picked 4 1/2 pounds from our two trees.

Rainiers.....they were so good!
Bings...they were also wonderful. I planted the Bing before I realized that they are not my favorite. But we chose the two types because they are good pollinators for each other. And each year the Bing gets taller and the Rainier looks more like a tree and less like a stick. I have come to accept that we did not take proper care of them early on. We did not prepare the soil very well. This might have been before we knew just how horrible the soil they put here was. The Bing got watered better because the neighbors behind us planted a tree right across the fence from ours and they watered it. Because their property is higher than us our Bing got watered by default. The Rainier on the other hand did not receive that special attention. I have learned my lesson. Trees get watered around here now! But I have two 7 year old cherry trees that really look only slightly bigger than a sapling you would by from a garden store. But I will say one thing in their favor....they are the only trees that have not gotten a fungus or blight or anything!
Another exciting thing that has happened around here since my last post. The boat is running!!!

Our friend Rich has been over a couple times to work on it with Craig and on this day they got it all put back together and fired her up! The exciting thing was that Craig bought the motor from a fellow who told him he had rebuilt part of it. But what Craig did not do before he handed over $1000 was to hear it run. So after sitting for two years they did a little tinkering, put in new plugs and a few things like that...at least I think that is what they did....I sort of tend to tune out mechanical talk. And when they checked the compression it was like a brand new motor! That was really good news! And it was good to hear it run!
On Monday Craig and Rich will be taking it to Foster to make sure everything is good to go before our camping trip next week. I am torn...do I stay home and clean and cook or do I go and watch the Lan Ann Des on her 'maiden' voyage? I am really leaning toward the voyage part!

Hearing that motor start up was a pretty stellar moment for all of us!!
I was ironing the other day......
I was ironing the other day......
And it dawned on me that I never complain about ironing....oh I get hot and my arm gets tired, but all in all I enjoy that chore. And as I ironed Liam's church shirts I thought back to all those years I had no little person to iron for. And then I started thinking about his tiny little clothes when he was a baby. And how when I first started ironing things for him they were so small....it was hard sometimes to keep the iron from going where I didn't want it. His shirts and pants are bigger now. Easier to iron. And while I iron I pray over him. I do that for Craig as well. I am just now thinking it wouldn't hurt to pray for myself as I iron dresses.
With so many days sitting in the 90's it only seemed appropriate to break out the pool. It may not be much but Liam loves it. He likes to make it a 'Jacuzzi' pool. Need I explain? He is all boy! His dad is no help in that arena either!
Here are a few early garden shots......these were taken about 10 days ago or so.

As you can see by all those pictures....we have had a lot of sun. A lot of really hot, miserable....sun. I am NOT a sun lover. Far from it! And my garden is doing some complaining about all the sun. I have not been able to start any swiss chard so far...it gets up a tiny bit then stops growing. And unlike any previous year I am having a bug problem like I have never seen. I have lost 10 cabbages and over half my green beans and all my dry beans to bugs. I don't see them...but they are decimating my plants! I have had to resort to Seven to kill them. And after we get back from camping I will be seeding more cabbage and other things in the house. I am now going to be depending on a fall crop for many things.
I will leave you with a Liamism: Last Wednesday we were at a friends pool. Liam is big enough now to be in there without me all the time and he had been playing with the other kids having a blast. There was another mother in there with her baby when I got in to spend some time with Liam and in the cool water. She told me that she had asked Liam who his mom was...he replied with a slightly puzzled look "Mom" she asked him what his mom's name was, he replied 'Mommy". Precious!
I will leave you with a parting shot.....
